SerNet has successfully obtained substantial funding from the German Sovereign Tech Fund (STF) to further develop the Samba Project , an essential open-source software that facilitates identity and access management (IAM) and seamless interoperability across Windows, Linux, and Unix systems through the SMB protocol.
In the coming 18 months, Samba core developers will address 17 critical milestones across six categories to improve the security, scalability, and functionality of Samba. The initiative will focus on enhancing areas such as transparent failover, SMB3 UNIX extensions, and cutting-edge security protocols like SMB over QUIC. These enhancements aim to maintain Samba as a strong and secure option for organizations needing a sovereign IT infrastructure, minimally dependent on proprietary software, yet fully capable of optimal interoperability.
